Two shepherds seeking refuge under a tree during heavy rain were struck by lightning in the Jaisinhangar and Jaitpur areas of Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, resulting in their immediate deaths.

Two shepherds who were moving cattle in the Jaisinhangar and Jaitpur zones of Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, took shelter under a tree as a downpour intensified. While they waited for the rain to ease, a bolt of lightning struck the tree, killing both men on the spot.
Local police and medical teams arrived promptly, confirming that there were no survivors and that no other injuries were reported in the vicinity. The incident was recorded as an accidental death caused by a natural lightning strike.
Authorities have urged residents and farm workers to avoid taking cover under isolated trees during thunderstorms and to seek safer structures such as buildings or designated storm shelters. The police will file a standard report and forward it to the district disaster management office for further safety advisories.
Lightning-related fatalities, though uncommon, highlight the need for public awareness about weather hazards, especially in rural areas where open fields and solitary trees are often used as temporary shelters.
