Two accidents occurred on the Ludhiana‑Bathinda highway near the Indian Air Force base in Halwara late Wednesday, officials say illegal speed‑breaker installations caused the collisions, leaving a truck driver seriously injured.
Late Wednesday night, two separate collisions were reported on the Ludhiana‑Bathinda highway in Halwara, a town in Punjab, within a span of about thirty minutes. Both incidents happened close to the Indian Air Force base that sits adjacent to the road.
Local police and traffic officials identified a series of makeshift speed‑breaker structures that had been installed without proper authorization near the base. These irregular obstacles are believed to have forced drivers to brake abruptly, leading to the chain‑reaction crashes.
One of the accidents involved a heavy‑load truck whose driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. The other vehicle’s occupants escaped with minor injuries.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine who installed the illegal speed breakers and have ordered the immediate removal of all unauthorized road‑side structures in the area. The investigation will also assess whether additional safety measures are needed around the air‑force installation.
