Researchers have identified two previously unknown gecko species inhabiting Telangana’s rocky landscapes and human-made stone piles, according to a report by Research Matters. The discovery highlights the region’s rich biodiversity.
The discovery was made during field surveys in Telangana’s rugged terrain, where researchers observed geckos living among natural rocks and artificial stone structures.
The two new species differ from known geckos in morphological traits such as scale pattern and coloration, though specific details were not disclosed in the report.
Experts note that human-made stone piles, often created for agricultural or construction purposes, can inadvertently create microhabitats that support reptile life.
The findings underscore the importance of documenting biodiversity in semi-arid regions and suggest that further surveys may reveal additional undocumented species.
