One victim, identified as Deepak Ratray, was shot and died before he could be shifted to a hospital. The second, Bopinder, was taken to Government Medical College Anantnag, then referred to SKIMS Hospital in Soura, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Both men were in their twenties and had travelled from Chhattisgarh in search of work. Authorities said the attack was carried out by a group of assailants, but no group has claimed responsibility yet.
Police have launched an investigation and are probing the motive behind the attack. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of migrant workers in the region.
