US President Donald Trump said he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after a flydubai co‑pilot allegedly stabbed the captain of an Israel‑bound flight. He added that the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
On Wednesday, a flydubai aircraft en route to Israel experienced an alleged assault by its co‑pilot on Captain Smit Machchhar. The captain was reportedly stabbed during the flight, prompting the crew to seek medical assistance and the plane to continue under emergency protocols.
After the incident, President Trump said he had spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu. He told reporters that authorities were still investigating and that the motive for the attack had not been established.
The airline and aviation security officials have launched an inquiry into the attack, while the co‑pilot remains in custody. No further details about the captain’s condition or the flight’s outcome have been released.
