After 53 hours of blocking a national highway in Mizoram, truckers lifted the protest following talks on driver harassment concerns.

Truckers who had shut down a stretch of a national highway in Mizoram for more than two days ended their blockade on Monday. The 53‑hour stoppage, which disrupted freight movement across the state, was called off after officials and union representatives held discussions addressing complaints of driver harassment.

The protest began when a group of truck drivers claimed they were repeatedly harassed by local authorities and faced arbitrary checks that hampered their schedules. Their demand was for clearer guidelines and protection against intimidation while on duty.

Following the talks, the drivers announced the removal of barricades and the resumption of normal traffic flow. Authorities said they would review the grievances and work towards a more driver‑friendly enforcement framework.

The brief disruption highlighted the sensitivity of logistics corridors in the Northeast and the need for balanced regulation to ensure both safety and smooth commerce.

No injuries were reported, and the highway is now open to regular vehicular movement.
