The heir of Tripura’s former royal family announced his withdrawal from active politics following TIPRA Motha’s victory in the recent tribal council elections.

The descendant of Tripura’s erstwhile royal family has formally announced that he will no longer take part in active politics. His decision comes on the heels of the tribal council elections in which his party, TIPRA Motha, secured a decisive victory.

TIPRA Motha, a regional outfit that campaigns on tribal rights and greater autonomy for the indigenous communities of the state, won a majority of seats in the newly constituted tribal council. The win is seen as a validation of the party’s agenda and a shift in the political landscape of Tripura, where national parties have traditionally dominated.

Political analysts suggest that the royal scion’s exit may open space for younger leaders within TIPRA Motha to assume greater responsibilities. While he did not elaborate on personal reasons, he emphasized that the party’s success will continue to drive its mission, even as he steps back from day‑to‑day political engagement.
