The Tripura government reported a 9% reduction in road accidents for the year 2023, according to the chief minister.
Tripura’s transport department, citing data released by the chief minister’s office, said the state recorded a nine‑percent decline in road accidents during 2023 compared with the previous year. The figure reflects the total number of reported collisions and fatalities on state highways and major roads.
The drop comes amid ongoing efforts to improve road safety, including stricter enforcement of traffic rules and awareness campaigns targeting drivers and pedestrians. Officials noted that the reduction, though modest, signals a positive trend after several years of relatively stable accident rates.
Chief Minister emphasized the need to sustain and deepen these initiatives, urging citizens to adhere to speed limits, wear helmets and seat belts, and avoid drunk driving. He pledged that the government will continue to monitor accident data closely and introduce further measures where needed.
