The Tripura state administration announced that a significant portion of its border with Bangladesh has now been fenced, enhancing security and curbing illegal crossings.

The Tripura government confirmed that a large segment of the state's boundary with Bangladesh has been enclosed with a fence. Officials said the construction is part of a broader effort to strengthen border security and reduce illegal movement across the frontier.

According to the state administration, the newly fenced stretch covers a substantial portion of the 856-kilometre border, though exact figures were not disclosed. The move follows years of concerns over smuggling, unauthorized migration and occasional cross‑border tensions.

Local authorities have urged residents near the fence to cooperate with security forces and report any suspicious activity. The project is expected to complement existing patrols and surveillance measures, contributing to a safer environment for communities on both sides of the border.

The state has not announced a timeline for completing the remaining unfenced sections, but officials indicated that work will continue in phases, subject to funding and terrain challenges.
