Tripura commemorates 207th birth anniversary of reformer Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar

Tripura observed the 207th birth anniversary of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, the eminent 19th‑century educationist and social reformer. Government officials, scholars and cultural groups participated in the commemorations, underscoring Vidyasagar’s lasting impact on Indian education and women’s rights. The observances included speeches that highlighted his pioneering work in modernising the Bengali script, promoting universal education and championing social reforms. Authorities reiterated the relevance of his ideas for contemporary policy and encouraged renewed focus on inclusive learning.

The state’s cultural departments organised a series of events across major towns, featuring literary readings and performances that reflected Vidyasagar’s legacy.
