Tripura’s chief minister has called on the state police to implement artificial‑intelligence technology to improve traffic control and reduce congestion.
The chief minister of Tripura addressed the state police in a recent briefing, urging them to integrate artificial‑intelligence solutions into the existing traffic management framework. The appeal comes as urban mobility challenges grow in the state's capital and other busy corridors.
AI‑driven systems can analyse real‑time video feeds, predict congestion hotspots and automatically adjust signal timings, officials said. Such technology promises faster incident detection, smoother vehicle flow and enhanced safety for commuters.
The government has not disclosed a detailed rollout plan yet, but the CM indicated that pilot projects could be launched within the next few months, pending budget allocation and technical partnerships. Police officials welcomed the suggestion, noting that modern tools are essential to keep pace with rising vehicle numbers.
Stakeholders, including local transport unions, are expected to be consulted to ensure the new system aligns with ground realities. If implemented, Tripura would join a handful of Indian states experimenting with AI to modernise traffic operations.
