Tripura Chief Minister opened a Rs 4.99 crore Bharat Mata Canteen‑cum‑Night Shelter at GBP Hospital to provide meals and overnight accommodation for patients and their families.

Tripura's chief minister presided over the inauguration of a new Bharat Mata Canteen‑cum‑Night Shelter at the Government‑run GBP Hospital. The facility, built at an estimated cost of Rs 4.99 crore, is designed to serve meals and offer overnight lodging for patients, their relatives and other needy visitors. Officials said the shelter will operate round the clock, aiming to reduce the financial and logistical burden on families seeking medical care. The project reflects the state government's focus on enhancing healthcare infrastructure and social welfare in the region. Construction was completed under the state's health development programme and the centre is expected to become operational within days.

The canteen will provide affordable, nutritious food, while the night shelter offers clean sleeping arrangements and basic amenities. Health department officials highlighted that such support services are crucial in improving patient outcomes and easing the strain on hospital resources. The inauguration was attended by senior bureaucrats and local representatives, underscoring the government's commitment to inclusive health services.

The GBP Hospital, a key tertiary care centre in Tripura, now adds this ancillary facility to its existing services, marking a step forward in the state's effort to make medical care more accessible and humane for its citizens.
