The state of Tripura marked the 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore with a series of cultural events, including music, dance, and literary readings.
Tripura’s cultural department organized a week‑long program to honour the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, who was born on 7th May 1861. The celebrations began with a flag‑hoisting ceremony at the state assembly, followed by a tribute concert featuring classical musicians and folk singers from across the state.
The event included a poetry recital where local writers read Tagore’s famous verses in both Bengali and Hindi, highlighting his universal themes of humanism and spirituality. A special exhibition displayed rare photographs and manuscripts related to Tagore’s life, attracting visitors from neighboring districts.
Officials said the program aimed to promote Tagore’s literary legacy among the younger generation and to strengthen cultural ties with the Bengali community in Tripura. The celebrations concluded with a communal dinner, symbolising unity and shared heritage.
"Tagore’s work transcends borders and languages," said a senior cultural officer. "We hope this observance inspires people to explore his contributions to literature and music."
