The Tripura government has cleared the establishment of 55 additional Anganwadi centres, aiming to expand early childhood care and nutrition services across the state.

The state government of Tripura announced that it has approved the creation of 55 new Anganwadi centres under the Integrated Child Development Services scheme. The decision was conveyed by the state's minister responsible for welfare programmes, who said the move will address gaps in early childhood care in underserved areas.

Anganwadi centres serve as focal points for nutrition, health check‑ups, pre‑school education and mother‑care services for children under six and pregnant or lactating women. Adding 55 centres is expected to increase coverage, particularly in remote blocks where existing facilities are scarce.

Implementation is slated to begin in the coming weeks, with the Department of Women and Child Development overseeing site selection, staffing and infrastructure set‑up. Officials anticipate that the expanded network will improve immunisation rates, reduce malnutrition and provide a structured learning environment for thousands of children across Tripura.
