The Department of Cardiology at TRIHMS celebrates eight years of growth, expanding cardiac care across Arunachal Pradesh.
The Department of Cardiology at the Tomi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) was inaugurated eight years ago with the aim of providing specialised heart‑care services in the remote hills of Arunachal Pradesh. Since its launch, the unit has evolved from a modest setup to a fully equipped cardiology centre serving the state’s growing demand for advanced cardiac treatment.
Over the years, the department has introduced a range of diagnostic and interventional facilities, including echocardiography, stress testing and catheter‑based procedures. It also runs regular training programmes for junior doctors and nurses, helping to build a local pool of cardiac specialists. Outreach camps in distant districts have been organised to screen for heart disease and raise awareness about preventive care.
The department now handles hundreds of outpatient consultations and a steady flow of inpatient cases each month, reducing the need for patients to travel to distant metropolitan hospitals. Officials say the eight‑year milestone underscores TRIHMS’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region and that further upgrades are planned to introduce more complex procedures in the coming years.
