Police in Narmadapuram have detained a Jharkhand‑based transporter accused of stealing Rs 4.35 lakh from a farmer by posing as a diesel‑discount scheme and hacking his phone with a counterfeit APK.

A farmer in Narmadapuram, Madhya Pradesh, reported a loss of Rs 4.35 lakh after being lured by a promise of a diesel discount. The perpetrator claimed to provide a special discount on diesel fuel and asked the victim to install an application on his mobile phone to process the benefit.

Investigators later discovered that the downloaded file was a malicious APK that compromised the farmer’s device, allowing the fraudster to gain access to personal and financial data. Using the hacked phone, the suspect transferred the stolen amount to accounts linked to a transport business.

The cyber crime cell of the Narmadapuram police traced the digital footprints to a transporter operating out of Jharkhand. After technical analysis and coordination with Jharkhand authorities, the suspect was taken into custody.

Authorities have warned farmers and the public to verify any discount offers and to avoid installing unsolicited applications, emphasizing that cyber‑enabled frauds are on the rise across the country.
