Tragic Road Accident Near Jalahalli: Two Dead, IncludTragicing a Teacher; Two Seriously Injured
Allegations of Failure to Take Precautionary Measures During Jaladhare Project Work
Devadurga/Jalahalli, Sept. 23: Two people, including a teacher, were killed and two others seriously injured in a tragic road accident near J.J. Kalyana Mantapa in Jalahalli village of Devadurga taluk on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Ningappa (27), a teacher from H. Siddapur village, and Hanumantha (45), a daily-wage worker from Jalahalli. The injured, Ramalingappa and Ranganath, have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Devadurga for further treatment.
Details of the Incident
The accident occurred at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday (September 23) near J.J. Kalyana Mantapa on the Jalahalli–Tinthini Bridge main road.
According to the complaint, Ningappa was walking along the road when he was hit by a Bolero vehicle (KA-35-B-5608) allegedly travelling at high speed and in a negligent manner.
It is alleged that earth had been excavated along the roadside for Jaladhare project work, and soil had been piled up without adequate warning signs or other precautionary measures. While Ningappa was crossing the mound of soil, the Bolero allegedly hit him.
The vehicle then reportedly hit Hanumantha, who was also walking along the same road, and subsequently collided with Ramalingappa and Ranganath, who were travelling towards the spot on a motorcycle.
Following the accident, the Bolero driver allegedly fled the scene without stopping the vehicle.
Hanumantha died on the spot, while Ningappa, who sustained critical injuries, died while being taken to the hospital.
Case Registered
Based on a complaint filed by Siddappa, brother of deceased Ningappa, the Jalahalli Police have registered a case against the Bolero driver and the contractor allegedly responsible for the Jaladhare project work, in connection with the alleged failure to take precautionary measures while excavating the roadside.
Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation.
