A 38‑year‑old man identified as Madan Pandit died and three others were injured when toxic gas escaped from a partially built septic tank in Chawla, Delhi.

A 38‑year‑old construction worker, identified as Madan Pandit, was exposed to poisonous gas while removing shuttering from a septic tank under construction in the Chawla area of Delhi. The incident occurred when the tank, still incomplete, released a toxic vapour that quickly filled the confined space.
Three other workers present at the site suffered inhalation injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical officials confirmed that the gas was likely a by‑product of the tank’s unfinished concrete work, which can generate hazardous fumes.
Delhi’s fire and emergency services have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and to assess safety compliance at the construction site. The authorities have advised contractors to review ventilation protocols and to ensure proper protective equipment for workers handling similar structures.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about occupational safety in rapidly expanding urban construction projects across the capital.
