A layer of toxic foam was observed on the Yamuna River close to Delhi's Kalindi Kunj park, leading authorities to launch a clean‑up operation.

Environmental officials reported that a thick, white foam spread across a stretch of the Yamuna River near Kalindi Kunj in Delhi on Monday. Preliminary tests indicated the foam contained hazardous chemicals, prompting concerns about water quality and public health.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) immediately cordoned off the affected area and deployed a team of specialists to assess the contamination. Local residents were advised to avoid contact with the water and to refrain from using the river for bathing or washing.

A coordinated clean‑up drive involving municipal workers, private contractors, and volunteer groups was launched within hours. The operation focuses on skimming the foam, neutralising the chemicals, and restoring normal flow. Authorities have pledged regular monitoring until the river is declared safe.

The incident has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of industrial discharge regulations along the Yamuna, which has long struggled with pollution. Officials said a detailed investigation will identify the source of the foam and hold responsible parties accountable.

No injuries were reported, and the DPCC will issue a public advisory once water quality tests confirm the river is safe for regular use.
