Three swept away in Lalachha Itma stream, Satna; two rescued, one still missing

Heavy rain caused the Lalachha Itma stream in Satna district to overflow, sweeping three cyclists away; two managed to swim to safety while rescue teams continue to search for the third.
The Lalachha Itma nala, located in the Nagod constituency of Satna district, Madhya Pradesh, burst its banks on Saturday as a sudden downpour intensified. Three men riding a motorcycle were caught in the fast‑moving water and were swept downstream.
According to eyewitnesses, two of the riders managed to keep their heads above water and swam to the riverbank, where they were pulled to safety by nearby villagers. The third rider could not reach the shore and has been missing since the incident.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police and a group of residents have launched a coordinated search operation, combing the banks and surrounding areas for any sign of the missing person. Authorities have also deployed a boat to navigate the swollen stream.
Officials have urged residents to avoid low‑lying watercourses during heavy rain and to report any sightings immediately, emphasizing that the situation remains hazardous until water levels recede.
