On Thursday, a mature banyan tree that had stood for decades in Chakbedolia, a village under the Vibhootipur police station of Samastipur district, suddenly fell amid a downpour. The incident occurred in the late afternoon as rain intensified across the region.
The falling trunk struck a group of children returning from school, resulting in the immediate death of three youngsters. Local witnesses said the children were between eight and twelve years old and were unable to escape the crushing branches.
