Three men identified as Kuki were shot dead during a gunfight in Manipur, as Meitei and Naga groups gathered in Imphal to call for the dissolution of the SoO pact with Kuki‑Zo armed groups.
Three Kuki men were killed in a gunfight that broke out in Manipur on Tuesday. The clash, which took place in an area of the state, resulted in the deaths of the three men, whose identities have not yet been released by authorities.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions between the Kuki community and other ethnic groups in the region. In recent weeks, Meitei and Naga groups have organized a rally in Imphal to demand the dissolution of the SoO pact, an agreement that links Kuki‑Zo armed groups with local militias.
Police have said they are investigating the shooting and have increased security in the affected areas. No further casualties have been reported at this time.
The state government has urged calm and called for dialogue among the parties involved, while local leaders have expressed concern over the rising violence.
