Three injured as rain‑triggered thatched house collapses in Shahdol’s Jaitpur area

A thatched house in Jaitpur, Shahdol district collapsed during heavy rain, injuring a husband, wife and their son, while six goats were crushed.
Heavy rain in the Jaitpur area of Shahdol district caused a makeshift thatched house to give way early on Monday, trapping the occupants under the debris. The structure, built with mud and thatch, collapsed suddenly as water seeped into the walls, leading to a partial roof failure.
The family inside – a husband, his wife and their young son – sustained injuries ranging from bruises to fractures. Villagers rushed to the site and managed to pull the three out of the rubble, but the nearest ambulance arrived after a delay. The injured were then taken to the district hospital in a private vehicle.
Six goats that were tethered inside the dwelling were also caught in the collapse and were crushed under the fallen material, resulting in their deaths. Local authorities have been notified, and officials are assessing the need for relief measures and guidance on safer temporary housing during the monsoon season.
