Police in Mohali have filed a case against three members of an immigration firm for cheating a young man of Rs 5.60 lakh by promising a move to Canada.
Mohali police have registered a criminal case against three individuals associated with an immigration consultancy after a young man reported being defrauded of Rs 5.60 lakh. The suspects allegedly lured the victim with promises of facilitating his migration to Canada and collected the money upfront.
The investigation, based on the victim's complaint, led to the filing of an FIR naming three members of the firm. Their identities have not been disclosed publicly, but authorities said they are now being pursued for further legal action.
Officials warned the public that such immigration scams are on the rise and urged anyone approached with similar offers to verify the credentials of agencies and report suspicious activity to the police.
The case underscores the need for greater vigilance as aspiring migrants often fall prey to fraudulent operators promising overseas opportunities.
The police continue to gather evidence and have appealed for additional information from potential witnesses.
