Health officials in Odisha’s Angul district have reported three fatalities linked to scrub typhus in the Pallahara area, amid a rise in cases.
Health authorities in Angul district, Odisha, confirmed that three people have died from scrub typhus in the Pallahara region. The deaths were recorded over the past week as the district reports a noticeable increase in suspected cases.
The district medical officer said that patients presented with high fever, severe headache and rash, typical of the rickettsial infection. Laboratory tests at the district hospital confirmed scrub typhus in all three fatal cases.
Officials have launched an awareness drive, urging residents to seek early medical attention for fever and to adopt preventive measures such as using insect repellents and avoiding exposure to tall grass where the chigger mites that spread the disease thrive.
The state health department is monitoring the situation closely and has dispatched additional diagnostic kits to health centres in Angul to facilitate prompt detection and treatment.
