Police in Rajasthan have detained the dumper owner, driver and another suspect for the September 21 killing of a forest ranger who was trying to stop illegal mining in Chhoti Sadri, Pratapgarh district.
The Rajasthan police announced on Thursday that three individuals have been taken into custody for the murder of a forest ranger in Chhoti Sadri, Pratapgarh district. The victim, a forest department ranger, was on a routine patrol to curb illegal mining when a dumper vehicle deliberately ran over him, according to the investigation report.
Investigators identified the driver of the dumper as the primary suspect, alleging that he intentionally positioned the vehicle over the ranger. The driver’s employer – the owner of the dumper – and a third accomplice were also arrested for allegedly facilitating the crime.
The incident occurred on 21 September, sparking outrage among local communities and forest officials. Authorities have launched a comprehensive probe into the illegal mining operations that prompted the ranger’s intervention, and have pledged stricter enforcement to protect forest personnel.
The three accused are currently in judicial custody and will appear before the district court for further legal proceedings. The case underscores growing tensions between illegal mining interests and forest protection efforts in Rajasthan.
Police continue to monitor other illegal mining sites in the region, emphasizing that any attempts to obstruct forest officials will be met with swift legal action.
