On the third Monday of Sawan, thousands of devotees arrived at Ujjain for the opening of the Nagachandreshwar temple, creating significant traffic congestion on the Indore‑Ujjain road.
On Monday, the third of the Sawan month, a large influx of devotees gathered at Ujjain to witness the opening ceremony of the newly inaugurated Nagachandreshwar temple. The event drew thousands of pilgrims from the surrounding districts, many of whom arrived early in the morning to secure a place at the temple.
The sudden surge in footfall caused a sharp rise in vehicular traffic on the Indore‑Ujjain highway. Traffic police reported that the stretch between the two cities was heavily congested, with vehicles idling for extended periods and several minor accidents occurring due to the bottleneck.
Local authorities responded by deploying additional traffic wardens and setting up temporary checkpoints to manage the flow of vehicles. Despite these measures, the road remained jammed for several hours, prompting commuters to seek alternate routes.
The temple management expressed gratitude to the devotees for their disciplined conduct and assured that security arrangements were in place to handle the large crowds. The event is expected to continue for the next few days as part of the Sawan pilgrimage celebrations.
