Thiruvananthapuram Gas Pipeline Leak During Roadwork Causes Panic

A gas pipeline leak was discovered while roadwork was underway in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, prompting immediate evacuation of nearby residents and a halt to the construction activity.

During routine roadwork on a main thoroughfare in Thiruvananthapuram, workers noticed a strong odor of gas and a faint hissing sound. The Kerala State Electricity Board’s gas division was notified immediately, and a team of technicians was dispatched to the site.

The leak was traced to a damaged section of the underground pipeline that supplies natural gas to the city’s residential and commercial areas. Emergency services evacuated households within a 200‑meter radius to prevent any risk of fire or explosion.

No injuries or casualties have been reported so far. The gas company has sealed the damaged segment and is conducting a full inspection of the surrounding pipeline network. Work on the road project has been suspended pending clearance from the authorities.

City officials have urged residents to stay away from the area until the gas supply is fully restored and safety checks are completed. The incident has highlighted the need for regular maintenance and monitoring of critical infrastructure in urban settings.
