Ten dead, many hospitalized after illicit liquor poisoning in Sagar, MP

At least ten people have died and several others fallen ill after consuming illicit liquor in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, officials said.
Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh reported a tragic incident on Thursday when a batch of illicit liquor, commonly referred to as "hooch," caused the deaths of ten individuals and left several others with severe symptoms. Local police and health officials confirmed that the victims had consumed the unregulated brew at a private gathering.
Emergency services rushed the affected persons to nearby hospitals, where doctors treated symptoms ranging from vomiting and dizziness to respiratory distress. The district health officer said that more than a dozen patients remain under observation, and that families are being provided with counseling and financial assistance.
The incident has prompted a renewed crackdown on illegal liquor production in the region. State police have launched an investigation to identify the source of the counterfeit alcohol and have sealed several suspected dens. Officials warned the public against consuming unlicensed beverages, citing past incidents that have claimed lives across the state.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed condolences to the bereaved families and directed senior officials to ensure swift action against those responsible for the tragedy, while also strengthening community awareness programs on the dangers of illicit liquor.
