The Comptroller and Auditor General has flagged a revenue shortfall of Rs 19,266 crore for Telangana over the first four months of the fiscal year, highlighting a widening fiscal gap.

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has released a report indicating that Telangana recorded a revenue deficit of Rs 19,266 crore during the first four months of the current financial year. The shortfall reflects the gap between the state's projected revenue and actual receipts, underscoring fiscal pressure on the state’s budget.

According to the audit, the deficit stems from lower-than-expected tax collections and delayed inflows from central transfers. The CAG’s findings suggest that the state may need to reassess its revenue forecasts and explore additional financing measures to bridge the gap.

State officials have been asked to submit a detailed action plan to address the shortfall and to improve revenue mobilization. The report comes as Telangana continues to implement its development programmes, which rely heavily on stable fiscal resources.

Economists note that such a sizable deficit could affect the state’s credit rating and its ability to fund ongoing projects without resorting to higher borrowing. The government is expected to present corrective steps in the upcoming legislative session.
