Telangana Voter List Revision Stalls as Revanth Raises Scrutiny Concerns

The Election Commission of India has launched a statewide voter list revision in Telangana, aiming to update electoral rolls ahead of the next assembly elections. The exercise, which began in early August, requires citizens to verify their details at local Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and submit supporting documents where necessary.
Opposition figure Revanth Reddy publicly questioned the transparency of the process, alleging that several verification steps were being bypassed and that the list could be vulnerable to manipulation. He urged the commission to allow independent observers and to publish the criteria used for accepting or rejecting entries.
On the ground, many voters reported long waiting times at BLO offices, with some officials unavailable due to staffing shortages. Residents also expressed uncertainty about which documents are acceptable, citing contradictory instructions from different BLOs.
The state election officer acknowledged the bottlenecks and said additional staff would be deployed to clear the backlog. He also promised to issue a clarified guideline on document requirements within the next two days.
