The state government announced plans to develop a dedicated ride‑hailing platform exclusively for auto‑rickshaw operators, aiming to boost earnings and digital inclusion.

Hyderabad, Aug 24 (Business Standard) – The Telangana government disclosed its intention to create a state‑run ride‑hailing application solely for auto‑rickshaw drivers. The initiative, announced by the transport department, seeks to provide a government‑backed alternative to private platforms that dominate the urban mobility market.

According to officials, the app will be built by the state’s IT department in collaboration with local auto‑rickshaw unions. It will feature real‑time booking, fare transparency and a digital payment gateway, with minimal commission charges to protect drivers' earnings.

The rollout is slated for a pilot phase in Hyderabad later this year, followed by expansion to other districts. Authorities expect the platform to enhance digital literacy among drivers, improve passenger safety, and generate reliable income streams for the informal transport sector.

The government has not disclosed the exact budget, but indicated that the project aligns with its broader digital‑economy agenda and aims to integrate auto‑rickshaws into the Smart City framework.
