Officials from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh confronted each other at Nagarjuna Sagar over the allocation of fresh water from the reservoir.

A meeting of senior officials from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh at the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir turned contentious as both sides disputed the share of fresh water flowing from the Krishna River.

Telangana representatives argued that the current release does not meet the state's agricultural and drinking‑water needs, while Andhra Pradesh officials maintained that the existing distribution follows the inter‑state water‑sharing agreement.

The disagreement escalated into a verbal row, with each side accusing the other of violating the terms of the 2002 pact governing Krishna water usage. No immediate resolution was reached, and both governments said they would seek a technical review.

The standoff highlights the growing pressure on shared river resources in the region, especially as monsoon patterns become increasingly erratic.

Further talks are expected to be scheduled in the coming days to prevent disruption to irrigation and domestic supply in both states.
