Rising Ganga waters have heightened erosion risk in flood‑hit Raghopur, Vaishali. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav visited the vulnerable zones on Friday evening to assess the situation.
The Ganga river’s water level in the flood‑affected Raghopur constituency of Vaishali district continued to rise on Friday, intensifying fears of bank erosion in low‑lying villages. The swift current and expanding water surface have prompted local authorities to issue warnings and deploy additional sandbags along vulnerable stretches.
Opposition leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, who also serves as the MLA from Raghopur, arrived in the area in the evening to personally inspect the erosion‑prone zones. Accompanied by district officials, he surveyed the embankments, spoke with residents about the immediate threats, and urged the administration to accelerate relief measures.
During the visit, Yadav instructed officials to ensure that sandbagging operations are completed without delay and that any breach in the embankment be repaired promptly. He also called for a coordinated response from the state disaster management team to prevent further loss of life and property.
The inspection comes as the state government monitors rising river levels across several districts, warning that continued heavy rainfall could exacerbate the situation. Residents have been advised to stay alert and follow evacuation orders if the water breaches existing defenses.
