A 17‑year‑old from Rampur drowned while crossing a temporary bridge over a swollen river in Kudra, Kaimur district; another youth was rescued by villagers.
A 17‑year‑old resident of Rampur, Vivek Kumar, lost his life on Saturday when he and another youth attempted to cross a makeshift rope bridge over a rapidly rising river in the Kudra police area of Kaimur district, Bihar. The river’s water level had surged after heavy rains, turning the shallow stream into a deep, fast‑flowing channel.
According to eyewitnesses, the two young men stepped onto the improvised bridge, which was built from local timber and rope, and were immediately swept into the current. Villagers on the riverbank managed to pull the second youth to safety, but despite immediate attempts at rescue, Vivek Kumar could not be revived and was declared dead at the scene.
Local authorities have warned residents about the dangers of crossing such temporary structures during monsoon‑induced floods. Police officials said they are reviewing the incident and will advise against the use of unofficial bridges until proper crossings are constructed.
