Educators across Odisha gathered today to demand swift justice over a recent incident affecting teachers.
Several hundred teachers assembled in the capital city of Bhubaneswar on Saturday, marching with placards that read "Justice for Teachers" and "Protect Our Rights." The protest was triggered by a recent incident in which a teacher was allegedly assaulted, prompting educators to call for immediate legal action and stronger safety measures in schools.
Organisers of the rally, representing various teachers' unions, submitted a written petition to the state education department demanding a fast‑track investigation and stricter penalties for offenses against school staff. They also urged the government to review existing security protocols in educational institutions.
Police presence was noted at the protest site, but authorities allowed the demonstration to proceed peacefully. State Education Minister Pratap Jena was scheduled to meet union leaders later in the day to discuss their grievances and possible remedial steps.
The teachers' association warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, further actions, including a possible strike, could be taken to highlight the seriousness of the issue.
