The Indian tea fraternity has collectively raised more than Rs 2.26 crore to support flood‑affected families in Assam, according to The Economic Times.
The tea community across India has pooled resources to generate over Rs 2.26 crore for relief efforts in flood‑stricken Assam. Contributions came from tea growers, processing units, trade associations and individual members of the sector, who coordinated the drive through the Indian Tea Board and regional bodies.
Assam, a key tea‑producing state, has been grappling with extensive flooding that displaced thousands and damaged plantations, homes and infrastructure. The funds are earmarked for immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, clean water and medical supplies, as well as longer‑term rehabilitation such as rebuilding homes and restoring damaged tea gardens.
Organisers said the collective response underscores the industry's social responsibility and its deep ties to the local communities that depend on tea cultivation for livelihood. The relief package will be disbursed through local NGOs and government channels to ensure swift delivery to the most vulnerable families.
