Taxi and auto‑rickshaw unions in Delhi‑NCR have launched a three‑day strike on May 21, halting services until May 23 and affecting commuter options across the region.

Taxi and auto‑rickshaw unions in the National Capital Region began a coordinated strike on Tuesday, May 21, marking the first day of a three‑day shutdown that will run through Thursday.
The protest, organized by the Delhi Taxi Union and the All‑India Auto‑Rickshaw Union, aims to press the government for higher daily earnings and relief from rising fuel costs. Drivers have been instructed to keep their vehicles off the roads for the duration.
As a result, most taxi‑booking apps and auto‑rickshaw services are unavailable across Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida and Faridabad. Public transport such as the Metro and DTC buses continue to operate, while some private hire services remain open where drivers choose to work.
The Delhi government has urged commuters to plan alternate travel arrangements and warned that traffic congestion may increase on routes where private vehicles substitute for the missing taxis and autos.
The strike is scheduled to end on May 23, after which unions will assess whether their demands have been addressed.
