Tamil Nadu to Acquire 600 Acres for Rameswaram Airport Expansion

The state government of Tamil Nadu has disclosed a proposal to acquire 600 acres of land for the expansion of Rameswaram Airport. The acquisition is intended to provide the necessary space for runway extension and ancillary facilities that will support larger aircraft and increased passenger traffic. Officials said the move aligns with broader efforts to improve air connectivity to the island district of Ramanathapuram. The land acquisition will be carried out under existing state land‑acquisition procedures, and compensation details are yet to be released. The project is expected to stimulate tourism and economic activity in the region once operational.
