The Vijay administration announced that British firms have pledged investments worth ₹15,300 crore in Tamil Nadu.
Chennai, Tamil Nadu – The Vijay government disclosed that companies from the United Kingdom have collectively committed to invest ₹15,300 crore (approximately $1.8 billion) in the state over the next few years. The announcement was made during a bilateral business forum attended by senior officials from both sides.
The pledged capital is expected to flow into sectors such as automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, information technology, and pharmaceuticals, aligning with Tamil Nadu's existing industrial strengths. State officials project that the inflow could generate several lakh new jobs and boost export earnings.
Chief Minister Vijay highlighted the importance of deepening economic ties with the UK, noting that the commitments reflect confidence in the state's policy framework and infrastructure. He urged the incoming investors to expedite project clearances to meet the proposed timelines.
The UK delegation, led by the British High Commissioner, welcomed the agreements as a step toward strengthening trade relations under the recently renewed UK‑India strategic partnership. Both governments said they will set up a joint monitoring committee to track progress and resolve any implementation challenges.
