Tamil Nadu government spokesperson Minister A. Rajmohan addressed the media to correct a widely circulated figure that suggested 103,400 people from the state were in Nepal when flash floods hit the region. He stated that the number is erroneous and does not reflect any official record.
The flash floods in Nepal caused significant damage and loss of life, prompting several Indian nationals to be monitored by the Indian embassy in Kathmandu. However, the Tamil Nadu administration confirms that only a small number of workers and tourists from the state were present in the affected zones, far fewer than the reported 103,400.
Minister Rajmohan urged news outlets to verify data before publishing and assured that any Tamil Nadu citizen requiring assistance will receive full consular support. He added that the state is coordinating with the Indian embassy to track and aid any residents impacted by the disaster.
