Tamil Nadu launches studies to find new ways to curb dengue transmission

The state government of Tamil Nadu said it will fund a series of scientific studies to identify novel methods for preventing dengue transmission. The initiative comes as health officials report a steady rise in dengue cases across several districts this year. Existing control measures, such as fogging and larvicidal sprays, have shown limited impact in curbing the outbreak. The health department will collaborate with research institutions, vector‑control experts and public‑health NGOs to explore options ranging from community‑based source reduction to innovative biological controls. Findings from the studies are expected to be compiled into policy recommendations by early next year, with the aim of strengthening the state’s dengue‑prevention framework.
