The Tamil Nadu government has announced a new initiative to train women farmers in drone operations, aiming to boost agricultural productivity and empower rural women.
The state government unveiled the scheme on Thursday, with Agriculture Minister K. K. Shanmugam outlining the program at a press briefing in Chennai. The initiative will provide free drone training to 5,000 women farmers across 20 districts over a 12‑month period. Participants will learn how to operate drones, collect aerial data, and apply precision agriculture techniques to monitor crop health and irrigation needs. The government plans to partner with local drone manufacturers and agricultural universities to set up training hubs and certify participants as certified drone operators.
