The proposed allocation of 234 cars for state legislators was turned down by the opposition DMK, PMK and left parties, citing cost concerns.

The Tamil Nadu administration unveiled a proposal to furnish 234 automobiles to members of the state legislative assembly, asserting that the vehicles would aid legislators in performing official duties efficiently.
Opposition formations, notably the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and a coalition of left parties, collectively dismissed the scheme, labeling it an avoidable financial burden on the exchequer.
These parties urged the government to channel the earmarked funds toward developmental programmes and warned that endorsing such perks could set a costly precedent for future administrations.
The ruling side has yet to issue a detailed response, and the matter is slated for discussion in the upcoming assembly session.
The controversy adds to growing scrutiny of public expenditure in Tamil Nadu, where fiscal prudence remains a key electoral issue.
