The Tamil Nadu Forest Department has ramped up operations to locate and capture a man‑eating tiger that has been attacking people in the Nilgiris district.
The forest administration in Tamil Nadu announced a heightened effort to track down a tiger that has been responsible for multiple human fatalities in the Nilgiris hills. Teams of wildlife experts, forest guards and veterinarians have been deployed with radio‑collars, camera traps and scent‑lure stations to pinpoint the animal's movements.
Authorities have also set up temporary command posts in Ooty and nearby villages to coordinate rescue operations and to keep residents informed about safety zones. The department is urging locals to avoid forest fringes after dusk and to report any sightings immediately.
The tiger, described as a mature male, was first sighted near Kotagiri after a series of attacks on shepherds and farm workers. While no further casualties have been reported since the intensified patrols began, officials say the hunt will continue until the animal is safely captured or neutralised.
