At the Southern Zonal Council meeting, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay called for fair and balanced policies from the Union government for all southern states.
The Southern Zonal Council convened this week, bringing together chief ministers of the five southern states. Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, Vijay, used the platform to press the Union government for policies that treat the region uniformly, citing disparities in fiscal allocations and project approvals.
He highlighted that while some states have benefited from recent central schemes, others lag behind in infrastructure funding and industrial incentives. Vijay urged the Centre to adopt a transparent formula for resource distribution that reflects the collective needs of the south.
The meeting also saw other state leaders echo concerns over uneven development, but Vijay’s remarks underscored a broader demand for a coordinated approach that avoids favouritism. The council is expected to forward a consolidated set of recommendations to the Prime Minister’s Office within the next fortnight.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs acknowledged the concerns and said it would review the states’ inputs before finalising the next phase of inter‑state cooperation initiatives.
