Chief Minister Vijay announced that water from the Mettur Dam, located in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, will be released to meet the irrigation needs of the state's delta region. The move comes as the agricultural season progresses and farmers in the Cauvery delta await adequate water supplies.
The released water is intended to flow through the existing canal network that feeds the delta's paddy fields and other crops, aiming to mitigate any shortfall caused by recent low rainfall.
