Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's deputy, CM Vijay, opened a new annex laboratory of the state-run dairy brand Aavin at the Madhavaram unit in Chennai, aiming to boost milk quality testing and research.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's deputy, CM Vijay, formally inaugurated an annex laboratory of the state‑run dairy cooperative Aavin at its Madhuravaram dairy complex in Chennai. The ceremony, attended by senior officials of the Department of Animal Husbandry, marked the completion of the facility that is expected to become operational within weeks.
The new laboratory is equipped to conduct advanced microbiological and compositional tests on milk and dairy products, enabling faster detection of contaminants and better compliance with safety standards. Officials said the lab will also support research on value‑added dairy processing, helping local producers improve product quality and marketability.
Aavin, which supplies a significant share of Tamil Nadu's milk, has highlighted the annex as a step toward strengthening the state's dairy infrastructure. By expanding testing capacity, the cooperative aims to assure consumers of safer milk while providing farmers with timely feedback to enhance herd health and productivity.
