The Tamil Nadu government’s plan to locate the state secretariat in Pattinapakkam has sparked criticism from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), with leaders accusing the ruling party of neglecting public consultation.

The Tamil Nadu government has announced a proposal to relocate the state secretariat to Pattinapakkam, a suburb located south of Chennai. The decision, made by Chief Minister T. V. Karthikeyan, aims to decentralise administrative functions and spur development in the region.

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has publicly opposed the move, arguing that the proposal was made without adequate public consultation. CPIM leaders have called for a review of the plan and urged the government to engage local communities in the decision‑making process.

Opposition parties have expressed concerns that the new location may create logistical challenges for officials and citizens alike. They also question whether the project aligns with broader state development priorities.

The government has yet to release detailed plans or timelines for the construction of the new secretariat. It has, however, stated that the move is intended to relieve congestion in the existing administrative hub and promote balanced growth across Tamil Nadu.
