The Tamil Nadu government has announced that during the 2026 Deepavali celebrations, firecrackers will be allowed only in two one‑hour windows to curb pollution and safety hazards.
The Tamil Nadu government has imposed a new restriction on firecracker usage during the 2026 Deepavali celebrations. Under the new rule, fireworks will be permitted only in two one‑hour windows each day of the festival.
The measure is aimed at reducing the environmental impact of the celebrations, as well as cutting down on fire accidents and noise pollution that have been a concern in recent years. By limiting the time frames, authorities hope to make the festivities safer for residents and visitors alike.
Officials have warned that violations of the new policy will attract penalties, and enforcement agencies will monitor the designated hours closely. The government has urged citizens to respect the limits and to celebrate responsibly.
The decision comes amid growing calls from environmental groups and safety watchdogs for stricter controls on firecracker use during major festivals across the country.
